Hollywood Beach
North CaicosFound between Three Marys Cays and Pumpkin Bluff Beach on North Caicos, Hollywood Beach typically offers some of the calmer waters on the island.
There are patches of seaweed growing at some spots in this area, but the beach tends to be the cleanest on its west end. Casuarina trees line much of this coastline and provide ample shade.
As is the case with all beaches on North Caicos and Middle Caicos, and in stark contrast to its Florida namesake, Hollywood Beach is quite quiet and secluded, and you’ll likely have the entire beach to yourself.
Interesting beachcombing can be had among the casuarina trees, where fishing floats, bottles and other flotsam can be found.
Snorkeling
Some tranquil snorkeling can be found in the lush seagrass off Hollywood Beach. There’s no coral or reef systems, yet the seagrass environment supports and attracts many types of interesting sea creatures, including southern brown stingrays, eagle rays, queen conch, cushion starfish, triton’s trumpets, and queen helmet conchs.
What’s on the Barrier Reef?
A strange shape can be seen jutting above the barrier reef off of Hollywood Beach. This feature is the bow of the River Arc, the sole remaining piece of a freighter that mysteriously grounded itself on the reef in 1985. This vessel was likely used by international drug traffickers, who abandoned it.
Other Sights and Attractions in the Area
When visiting North and Middle Caicos on a day trip, we advise planning the day’s route so as to fit in as many scenic sights as possible.
Depending on your interests, consider visiting Three Marys Cays, the birdwatching sites of Pumpkin Bluff Pond and Mud Hole Pond, and the small yet exquisite Pumpkin Bluff Beach, which is nestled between two coastal limestone ironshore bluffs.
Beach Accesses
Access to Hollywood Beach can be a little confusing due to none of the many roads in the area having names. We recommend approaching from the Whitby side of the beach. If you continue west down Whitby Highway (northwest of the T-junction with Kew Highway) the road becomes unpaved and you’ll pass a roundabout and the abandoned Prospect of Whitby Hotel. A short distance down this road is Pumpkin Bluff Pond where accesses such as the East Beach Access 🡓 and the Pumpkin Bluff Pond Beach Access 🡓can be found nearby in a largely undeveloped residential project.
Sections of the route leading to the Hollywood Beach area are unpaved, yet road conditions remain suitable for all rental vehicles.
